Dr. Bassett Contributes to Huffington Post – Here’s Why Your Spring Allergies Are Already Flaring Up
It’s only the beginning of March, but spring allergies are already on the rise.
Over at his office at Allergy and Asthma Care of New York, Dr. Clifford Bassett said he’s “already seeing a tenfold increase in the volume of phone calls of people complaining of allergies and allergy-like symptoms.”
The reason for all those early calls? This more-or-less comfy, mild winter that many of us have enjoyed so far.

Dr. Bassett Contributes to The Weather Channel – The Truth About the 2016 Spring Allergy Season
The spring allergy season is just around the corner, which means it’s almost time to stock up on tissues, nasal spray and anything else you use to beat the incoming “pollen vortex.” A few factors, including the mostly mild winter thus far and the presence of El Niño, could mean that the 2016 spring allergy season will be bigger and badder than previous years.
“In any year with an El Niño phenomenon, we expect certain areas of the country, particularly in the South, to be plagued by lots of rainfall and precipitation,” Dr. Clifford Bassett, founder and medical director at Allergy and Asthma Care of New York told weather.com. “Each year it’s different. If you look at the aero biology, you have a lot of different pollen areas. There’s a lot of cities [in the South] that are hit hard each year during the spring allergy season.”

Mosquitoes cause more human suffering than any other organism, according to the American Mosquito Control Association.
As Zika virus spreads across Latin America and the Caribbean, it’s more important than ever to know how to protect yourself.
The Zika virus was first discovered in Uganda in 1947, and chiefly transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes. It was first reported in humans in 1950s. Now the World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that the Zika virus is “spreading explosively” in the Americas and that as many as four million people could be infected by the end of 2016. There is no current vaccine to prevent the Zika and related mosquito-borne viruses.

Dr. Bassett Contributes to The Weather Channel – Are You Allergic to Your Pet?
One of the biggest questions families face when deciding to get a pet has to do with allergies — namely, will this particular animal give their loved ones the sniffles?
A number of factors determine whether your pet is hypoallergenic or not, but the chief allergy triggers are dander and saliva. Many of the hypoallergenic breeds are hairless or shed less than their allergy-causing peers. But according to Dr. Clifford Bassett, founder and medical director Allergy & Asthma Care of New York, it’s hard to find a truly hypoallergenic pet.

Dr. Bassett Contributes to Huffington Post – Sorry, There’s No Such Thing As A Hypoallergenic Dog Breed
Sorry to break it to you, but if you’re a dog-lover who’s allergic to pets, a hypoallergenic dog breed isn’t going to help much, since they technically don’t exist.
“Contrary to the many marketing claims made to appeal to people with allergies to pets, there is no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog,” Franklin D. McMillan, a veterinarian and director of well-being studies at Best Friends Animal Society, told The Huffington Post in an email.
“People can be allergic to anything, although for any one person certain animal species, breeds and even individuals may trigger fewer allergy symptoms than others,” he said.

Dr. Bassett Contributes to Huffington Post – 7 Science-Backed Reasons Having A Beard Is Good For You
Sporting a beard is arguably the most polarizing grooming choice a man can make. Whether you wear foot-long facial hair with pride or shave as soon as signs of a 5 o’clock shadow emerge, chances are you’ve received feedback on the state of your chin.
But facial hair takes on a whole new meaning this month as men let themselves grow in honor of No-Shave November, the non-profit campaign to promote awareness of men’s cancers.
The goal is to “grow awareness by embracing our hair, which many cancer patients lose, and letting it grow wild and free,” according to the organization’s website. You can donate the money you typically spend on shaving tools to the group to help fight cancer.
