The change, which took effect on January 1, is a result of the Food Allergy Safety, Treatment, Education and Research Act (FASTER Act), which was signed into law in April 2021.
Food manufacturers must now identify sesame as an allergen on labels and work to prevent cross-contact with this allergen in production facilities
These regulations were already in place for the other major food allergens, including eggs, wheat, peanuts, milk, soybeans, tree nuts, fish, and shellfish.
